Reference & Citation Style (IEEE Style – JMSET Standard)

The Journal of Materials Science and Emerging Technologies (JMSET) uses the IEEE Style, consistent with leading materials science journals.

General Referencing Rules:

  • The journal strictly follows the IEEE numeric referencing style.
  • References must be cited in the order they appear in the text.
  • In-text citations must be indicated using square brackets, e.g., [1], [2], [3].
  • The reference list must appear at the end of the manuscript and be arranged in numerical order.
  • All authors must ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of references.
  • Journal titles and book titles must be italicized.
  • Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) should be included wherever available.

In-Text Citations

  • Single reference: [1]
Example: Nanocomposites exhibit enhanced tensile properties [3].
  • Number sources in order of appearance.
  • Cite references after punctuation where necessary.
  • Multiple citations should appear as:
    • Sequential/Consecutive references: [2]–[5]
    • Non-sequential: [2], [7], [9]
  • When referencing authors in text:
Zhang et al. [8] reported significant improvements…

Reference List Format

  • List references numerically in the order cited in the manuscript.
  • Use abbreviated journal titles according to ISO4/NLM.
  • Provide DOI whenever available.
  • Author names: First initial (s). Last name.
  • Use initials for all given names (first and middle) followed by the full last name
  • Separate multiple authors with commas, and use and before the last author.
  • Two authors: L. Chen and H. Y. Kim
  • Three or more authors: S. Ramalingam, R. K. Gupta, and P. Natarajan
  • IEEE recommends listing all authors, not using “et al.” in the reference list (only in-text can “et al.” be used for more than six authors if necessary).
